This group of countries is formed intuitively, just like the others. This means that my origin plays a role, especially when it comes to knowledge deficiencies. Apart from a two-week visit to St. Petersburg around the turn of the year 1995, I know little about the USSR, its cohesive forces and political reality. In view of what is going on in the meantime in particular in (the remnants of) the media preoccupied with Atlantic cooperation, I must assume that this intuition rests on distorted images and falsehoods. Anyway.
I selected, more or less as a kind of geopolitical residual category between the blocks that I came up with around Europe, the Mediterranean, Saudi Arabia and India. Seven countries ended up there. Successively Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
